New Bern Fire-Rescue (NBFR) is the oldest chartered fire department in the state of North Carolina. A combination fire department, NBFR is currently comprised of 72 career firefighters and 3 volunteer firefighters who are dedicated to providing fire suppression, fire prevention and administrative duties. We also provide other services such as our Child Passenger Safety Seat Program, Project Alert (Smoke Detector Program), Safety Troupe (clowns), Puppeteers, Color Guard, Emergency Medical Services, and Technical Rescue Team. In addition, our Urban Search and Rescue Team is part of the North Carolina Task Force 10. NBFR protects the approximately 29 square miles of the City of New Bern from 3 fire stations. We also have a state-of-the-art training academy, a requirement for all new employees and volunteers.
